Recycle and Repurpose

These simple upcycling and trash-to-treasure craft workshops prove that old goods can become beautiful and attractive statement pieces. Before you send anything off to the trash see if you can upcycle them.

To recycle means, according to the Oxford dictionary [1], to “Convert (waste) into reusable material” or to “Use again”; if we analyze the word it means to put a material back into its cycle, more specifically its life cycle. It involves the destruction of waste in order to create something new, whereas upcycling takes waste and creates something new from it in its current state. While recycling is practical, upcycling is highly creative and can involve a wide variety of techniques and materials to create the finished product.

Many of these workshops require some basic supplies. The good news is that you’ve probably got most of these things lying around the house! So, dig up those fabric scraps, scissors, tape, glue guns, sewing kits and buttons and let’s get crafty!
