Course Overview

The leather craft introduces participants to the various types of leathers and tools. It provides
information on how to decide on which kind of leather is best for your specific purpose. It is also
intended to teach the fine art of leather tooling, carving, stamping and joining thus designing
well-crafted leather jewelry, items such as handbags, belts, watchbands and items of footwear
that are admirable.

Leather craft items are easier to make than one expects.

Expected Outcomes of the Leather Craft Course


  1. Develop a general knowledge of the basic concepts of leather craft.

  2. Practice proper health and safety procedures when working in the Leather Craft Industry.

  3. Effectively plan and organize work activities in order to complete required tasks in the given time frame.

  4. Effectively interact, cooperate, collaborate and manage conflicts with other people in order to

    complete tasks and achieve shared goals.

  5. Communicate effectively with each other and with other people in order to achieve the desired

    outcomes.

  6. Carry out measurements and perform simple calculations to determine tasks and materials

    required for a job

  7. Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the different supplies and suppliers of

    relevant tools and equipment, the proper maintenance and use of these tools and equipment

    and their applications in the Leather Craft Industry.

  8. Demonstrate an understanding of basic design and drawing concepts.

  9. Create unique patterns and/or use already existing patterns to formulate designs.

  10. Prepare various weights of leather prior to the carving process.

  11. Employ the appropriate use of measuring and cutting techniques.

  12. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practices of Leather Carving/Tooling.
